INTI-ILLIMANI

Inti-Illimani were an important part of Chile´s folk movement "La Nueva Cancion Chilena". After the military putsch in 1973 they went into exile and lived in Italy until 1988. When they finally returned to Chile Thousands of people celebrated them as their return was like a symbol of the re-creation of a free cultural Chile.

Their list of musical co-operations, awards and musical publications is as long as their extraordinary history. To name a few: Inti-Illimani appeared on stages for Amnesty International and for the Victor Jara Foundation with artists like Peter Gabriel, Bruce Springsteen, Mercedes Sosa, Wynton Marsalis and John Williams - they also shared the stage with Federico Fellini, Patricio Manns, Arja Saijonmaa, Holly Near, Yousssou N` Dour and Pete Seeger. They co-operated with Francesca Gagnon, aka the "Voice of Algeria" of Cirque du Soleil. Most recently, in March of 2014, Inti-Illimani was invited by Joan Baez to perform with her during her South American tour. She will have a guest appearance on Inti-Illimani´s new album.

Playing on more than 30 wind, string and percussion instruments, Inti-Illimani's compositions are a treasure for the human spirit. Their music, wedded in traditional Latin American roots, captures at once the very personal colours of their experiences while simultaneously appealing to the universal in us all.

QUOTES

"Few Latin American acts can rival this Chilean group in terms of the sheer beauty of sound. Much like a Zen affirmation, Inti-Illimani's music floats within your soul, filling it with calmness and hope."
(The Los Angeles Times)

"From the first strums on the charango, Inti-Illimani proceeded to keep the audience spellbound for the next 90 minutes ... a trademark mix of traditional Latin American melodies cross-pollinated with European-style chamber music and occasional nods to jazz. Inti-Illimani is proof that the sax and the sikus (pan pipes) need not be strangers."
(the Globe And Mail, Toronto)

"An Inti-Illimani concert is a wild ride through Latin music, a whirlwind of Andean folk tunes, tangos from Argentina, Brazilian sambas, and throbbing, sobbing love songs from Mexico. ..all the players displayed relentless virtuosity in a concert that was pure exhilaration to the very end."
(The Washington Post)

THE NEW ALBUM
Text: provided by Inti-Illimani

"This new record will be marked by fresh energies and a new life cycle for Inti Illimani. The record is comprised of 10 songs, where 7 of them are original, covering an recreating essentially Latin American rhythms and sounds with new melodic and harmonious structures, where the arrangement made by Inti Illimani and the tone of classic instruments combine with the marvellous sounds of native Latin American instruments. A highlight in the record is a new version of Violeta Parra's "Volver a los 17", where we are honoured by the participation of Joan Baez, renowned singer and Human Rights activist, and Isabel Parra, Chilean composer and singer, daughter of Violeta. We will also have the company of the Argentinian young and prolific singer-songwriter Raly Barrionuevo and two songs from the traditional Latin American repertoire.
This work will be record between September 30 and October 10 in Estudios del Sur.
The record will be released in mid-November, 2014, at the Teatro Nescafé de las Artes in Santiago de Chile; after this,we will start working on the international release..."
