Rooted in the desert. Alive in every note.

Meet Bombino

A voice carried by the guitar.

Omara ‘Bombino’ Moctar brings the musical language of the Tuareg people into an electric, open-ended sound. Repeating guitar figures gather momentum, rhythms stretch and turn, and a quietly expressive voice holds everything together.

His music moves between intimacy and the drive of a full band: songs of belonging, resilience and the life of the desert, played with an improviser’s freedom. On stage, the groove can become hypnotic — drawing listeners in before lifting the whole room.

The New York Times called him the “Sultan of Shred”. His album Deran earned a nomination at the 2019 GRAMMY Awards. Alongside the virtuosity is an unmistakable rhythmic signature: Tuareggae, his meeting of Tuareg guitar and reggae.

Sahel

Named after the region stretching across Africa from the Atlantic to the Red Sea, Sahel explores the breadth of Bombino’s sound. Produced by David Wrench and recorded at Studio HIBA in Casablanca, the album moves through different moods and textures while remaining unmistakably his own.

The next European chapter brings a new album into view. The title and release details will follow; in the meantime, Sahel offers a rich introduction to the artist behind the live show.
